Cardinals Compete, Learn, and Grow in Challenging Season on the Pitch

Muskegon, MI -- Orchard View's girls soccer team experienced a demanding 2026 season, but one that could be defined by resilience, effort, and continued development against a tough schedule.

The Cardinals faced a full slate of strong programs both in the West Michigan Conference, and in non-conference tilts. Orchard View often found themselves competing against established programs.  While the results did not always fall in their favor, the Cardinals continued to show perseverance on the pitch and moments of progress throughout the spring.

Early in the season, Orchard View battled teams like Newaygo and Comstock Park, where the Cardinals worked to find rhythm and structure against well-organized opponents. Despite setbacks, the team kept competing, and the players continued to grow into their roles as the season progressed .

The Cardinals broke through finding success when Orchard View earned a hard-fought 2–1 victory at Muskegon.   OV was able to jump ahead early and held off a late push from the Big Reds to secure one of their most complete performances of the season . The win showcased the team’s ability to capitalize on opportunities and close out a tight match.

Offensively, the Cardinals found key moments of success in several games, including a breakaway goal against Muskegon Catholic Central earlier in the season, despite a 4–1 loss in that contest . Those flashes of attacking promise highlighted the team’s ability to create chances even against stronger defensive sides.

As the season progressed, Orchard View continued to face adversity in the form of high-scoring West Michigan Conference opponents Ludington, Ravenna, and Fremont. Those matches tested the team’s defensive shape and endurance, but also provided valuable experience for a relatively young roster.

While the win-loss record did not fully reflect the effort put forward, Orchard View’s 2026 girls soccer season will be remembered as a year of development, resilience, and small but meaningful steps forward for a program continuing to build its identity.
