Cardinals Show Fight Despite Pair of Conference Losses

Fremont, MI -- The Orchard View varsity baseball team took to the diamond Tuesday night for a West Michigan Conference doubleheader, battling through two tough matchups against Fremont.

The Cardinals dropped the opener 10-3 before falling 14-3 in the second game of the evening.

In game one, Orchard View showed flashes offensively but was unable to overcome a fast start by the Packers. The Cardinals were patient at the plate, drawing six walks in the contest and creating opportunities on the bases. Leon Blackston led Orchard View offensively, recording one hit while driving in two runs. Blackston and Carter O’Brien also used their speed as a weapon, each collecting multiple stolen bases during the game.

The Cardinals continued to battle in game two despite falling behind early. Senior Chris Theile provided a spark offensively with a double, while the Cardinals capitalized on a Packers error that helped tie the game in the second inning. Thomas Klien and Gage Wells also contributed at the plate, each collecting a hit for Orchard View.

Despite the setbacks, the Cardinals continued to compete throughout both contests and will now turn their attention toward postseason play. Orchard View travels to Oakridge Public Schools on Saturday to open district tournament action against Fruitport.
