Wright Accepts Leadership Challenge for Cardinals

MUSKEGON, Mich. — As the Orchard View Cardinals prepare for the upcoming football season, senior Damari Wright is stepping into a role that extends far beyond the stat sheet.

Expected to contribute on both sides of the ball as a wide receiver and defensive back, Wright has been identified by Head Coach Aaron James as one of the program's leaders this fall. While leadership often brings added pressure and responsibility, Wright welcomes the challenge.

"I'm grateful, knowing that I have the ability to help my team grow and be the player the younger guys look up to," Wright said.

The senior understands that leadership is not simply about making plays on Friday nights. It is about setting the standard every day, whether in practice, the classroom, the weight room, or throughout the community.

After helping the Cardinals to a 5-4 record last season, Wright is focused on making sure both he and the team continue to improve. With many younger players expected to contribute this season, he knows his example will play a significant role in their development.

That leadership aligns perfectly with the mantra Orchard View has embraced this season: PRIDE.

For Wright, pride carries a deeper meaning than football.

"I see pride as self-respect and a feeling of satisfaction over an accomplishment," he explained.

Those words reflect the culture being built by Cardinal coach Aaron James, and his staff.  Pride is about how players carry themselves, how they represent their school, and how they respond when faced with adversity.

Wright's leadership and dedication have not gone unnoticed beyond Orchard View's campus. Recently, the senior received a football offer from Calvin University, a milestone that represents years of hard work and commitment to the game.

"This really is a blessing. Getting a chance to play a sport I love at the next level is something I always dreamed of," Wright said. "Just knowing that the work I am putting in isn't going unnoticed, and this is just the motivation to keep striving for more."

For Wright, the offer serves as validation of the countless hours spent training, studying the game, and working to improve both on and off the field. Yet, despite the excitement surrounding his recruiting journey, his focus remains firmly on helping Orchard View succeed during his final season as a Cardinal.

The recognition from Calvin is another example of the culture being built within the Cardinals program. Players are being challenged to develop not only as athletes, but as students and leaders, creating opportunities that extend beyond high school football.

As his senior season approaches, Wright understands that earning a college offer is not the finish line. Instead, it is another step in a journey that continues to be driven by hard work, humility, and pride. With college coaches taking notice and younger teammates looking to him for guidance, Wright is embracing every opportunity that comes with being one of Orchard View's leaders.  

As Orchard View sets their sights on a return to the postseason, Wright's impact will be measured by more than receptions, tackles, or interceptions. His leadership, work ethic, and commitment to the program's values could prove just as important to Orchard View's success.

With a new season on the horizon and high expectations surrounding the program, Damari Wright is embracing the responsibility that comes with being a senior leader. If his attitude is any indication, the Cardinals will have a player who is prepared to lead by example every step of the way.

For Wright, the message is simple: represent yourself, represent your school, and take pride in everything you do!
