Muskegon, MI -- The Orchard View Cardinals will hit the road Friday night for a conference clash with the Montague Wildcats, and there is plenty at stake as the Cardinals enter the second half of their early-season schedule.
Now, another streak stands in front of them.
The Cardinals have not defeated Montague since 2014, when Orchard View opened that season with a 22-16 victory over the Wildcats. Since then, Montague has won six straight meetings, including a 54-20 victory just a year ago.
This year's Montague team enters Friday's game 1-2, coming off a hard-fought 34-28 victory over neighboring Oakridge. The Wildcats built on a strong offensive performance to hold off the Eagles in a game that came down to the wire.
A Full Night of Cardinal Football
The varsity matchup isn't the only meeting between the two programs this week.
The Orchard View Middle School Cardinals also played Montague and fell 22-8, while the Junior Varsity Cardinals dropped their matchup 41-14.
Now it's the varsity Cardinals' turn to take the field.
The Conference Race Is Taking Shape
With Fremont sitting at 3-0 and hosting Ludington this week, the West Michigan Conference race is beginning to take shape.
Orchard View has put itself in the mix with its 2-1 start, and Friday's trip to Montague presents another opportunity to build on that momentum.
The Cardinals have already shown they can change the narrative this season. After ending a 27-year drought against Whitehall, they now have another piece of history directly in front of them.
The opportunity is there for Orchard View to take hold of what is in front of them and begin defining what this season can become.
Friday night, the Cardinals head to Montague looking to cage the Wildcats.
