Orchard View Looks to Carry Late-Season Momentum Into the MHSAA District Tournament

Muskegon, MI -- The postseason has arrived, and the Orchard View Cardinals are looking to make the most of an opportunity to extend their season. With a 7-6-4 record, Orchard View opens MHSAA district play against a familiar opponent in Manistee, welcoming the Mariners to Orchard View’s campus for a second meeting on the Cardinals’ home field.

The two teams met on September 23, when Orchard View earned a 2-0 victory. Now, with the stakes higher and the season on the line, the Cardinals will look to produce a similar result and advance to the next round of district play.

Head coach Chris Belasco is eager to see what his team can accomplish, especially after the Cardinals’ performances over the last couple of weeks. Belasco is pleased with the direction his team is heading and believes Orchard View is peaking at the right time as the stakes get higher.

The Cardinals will look to their experience and leadership to guide them through the postseason. Junior Bryson Stingle anchors the back line, providing an important presence defensively as Orchard View looks to limit opposing scoring opportunities.

Offensively, the Cardinals will look for seniors Nito Ortega and Wyatt Johnson to help lead the attack and generate scoring chances when they matter most.

Orchard View also has two capable options in goal and will likely turn to Keegan Brengle, whose solid performances have provided another important piece of the team’s defensive foundation.

Stingle, Ortega, Johnson and Brengle were all recently recognized with West Michigan Conference All-Conference honors, underscoring the individual talent the Cardinals will bring into district competition.

A Familiar District With No Easy Path

Orchard View knows the teams standing between it and a district championship. The Cardinals have faced every opponent in the district this season, experiencing a mix of wins, ties and losses that demonstrates just how familiar these teams are with one another.

Against the teams in the district, Orchard View earned victories over Manistee and Oakridge, suffered losses to Montague and Whitehall, and played Shelby and Hart to a draw. Those results set the stage for a district tournament in which previous meetings offer insight, but nothing is guaranteed.

The opening-round matchups feature Orchard View against Manistee, Montague against Shelby, and Hart against Oakridge. Whitehall received a first-round bye through the tournament draw.

For Orchard View, the immediate focus is Manistee. The Cardinals already know what it takes to defeat the Mariners, but postseason soccer brings a different level of urgency. One strong performance can keep a season alive, while one difficult night can bring it to an end.

With a familiar opponent, a confident coaching staff and a group of players finding their rhythm, Orchard View enters district play with an opportunity to turn its recent progress into postseason success.

The goal is straightforward: defend home field, take care of business against Manistee and keep the season going.

District soccer is here, and the Cardinals are ready to make their move.
