Orchard View honors two seniors for their leadership and lasting impact on the volleyball program as the Cardinals fall to Hesperia in straight sets.

Muskegon, MI -- Thursday evening at Orchard View was about more than the final score. While the Cardinals fell to Hesperia in straight sets, 13-25, 11-25, and 8-25, the night provided an opportunity to celebrate two seniors who have left their mark on the program. Haylee Doty and Alivia DeCheney were recognized for their dedication, leadership, and the memories they have helped create while wearing the Cardinal uniform.

The Cardinals faced a tough Hesperia squad that controlled much of the match, making it difficult for Orchard View to establish consistent offensive momentum. Despite the challenges, the Cardinals continued competing, with several players contributing on both sides of the net.

Offensively, Breylin Bruesch provided a spark for Orchard View, recording four serving points, three of which came on aces. Bruesch also added two kills, providing the Cardinals with opportunities to build momentum. Jasmine Bell continued her development in the setter position, leading the team with two assists.

Defensively, sophomore Ava Dood once again demonstrated her relentless effort in the back row. Dood collected a team-high nine digs, working to keep the ball alive and extend rallies against the Panthers. At the net, Aubrey Beckley recorded Orchard View's lone block of the evening.

While Hesperia controlled the scoreboard, the evening's most meaningful moments came as Orchard View turned its attention to honoring its seniors.

For Haylee Doty and Alivia DeCheney, Senior Night represented the culmination of countless practices, matches, and memories shared with their teammates. Their contributions to Orchard View volleyball extend beyond individual statistics, reflecting the leadership and commitment necessary to help a program grow through both victories and challenges.

Head Coach Alecia Miller took the opportunity to recognize the two seniors and express her appreciation for everything they have brought to the Cardinals.

"To Alivia and Haylee, this is the end of this chapter, but it’s just the beginning to the great things you’re going to do. THANK YOU for the leadership you’ve brought to the team and the positive impact you’ve left on the program."

Miller concluded her tribute with a request that brought the focus squarely back to the two athletes being honored.

"Please join me in one more round of applause for your Orchard View Senior Volleyball Players."

Those words captured the significance of the evening. For a program that has faced its share of adversity this season, the dedication of athletes like Doty and DeCheney represents something that cannot be measured in wins and losses.

Throughout the season, Miller has emphasized the importance of recognizing her athletes for their hard work, perseverance, and commitment to one another. Thursday's celebration was another reminder that building a program involves more than what happens between the lines.

As the Cardinals continue moving forward, the contributions of their two seniors will remain part of the program's story. The leadership they provided, the example they set, and the relationships they built are all pieces of a legacy that will continue beyond their final season.

The scoreboard may have favored Hesperia on Thursday night, but for Orchard View, the evening was an opportunity to recognize two young women who have given their time, effort, and hearts to Cardinal volleyball.

For Haylee Doty and Alivia DeCheney, one chapter is coming to a close, but as their coach reminded them, the best chapters may still be ahead.
