Muskegon, MI — Orchard View couldn't have asked for a better start to the season.
The Cardinals opened 2026 with a dominant 49-0 victory over Wyoming in a week one contest at Cardinal Stadium, setting the tone on both sides of the football. Now, they'll find out how that performance translates against a much tougher opponent.
Orchard View travels north to face defending conference champion Ludington in Week 2, with the Orioles looking to bounce back from a 39-8 loss to Coopersville.
Despite the rough opening night, Ludington remains the team to beat in the conference. The Orioles have their sights set on another championship, and Orchard View will enter Thursdays matchup as the underdog.
That doesn't mean the Cardinals lack confidence.
Orchard View is looking to build on last year's progress and show its 2026 opener was a sign of a team ready to take the next step. A win over Ludington would go a long way toward making that case.
The Cardinals also have plenty of reason to remember the last meeting. Ludington cruised to a 55-15 victory a year ago, handing Orchard View one of its more difficult losses of the season.
This time around, the Cardinals believe they have a chance to make the matchup much more competitive.
For Ludington, Thursday presents an opportunity to put Week 1 behind them and remind the conference why they remain the defending champions. For Orchard View, it's an opportunity to turn an impressive opening night into something much bigger.
The Cardinals have already made an early statement.
Now comes the first real test.
