Orchard View Soccer, Knocks Off State Semifinalist Fremont on the Road

Fremont, MI — Orchard View boys soccer picked up its biggest wins of the season Wednesday night, traveling to Fremont and coming away with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over a team that reached the state semifinals a year ago.

Senior Juanito Ortega provided both goals for the Cardinals, while junior Aiden Leek added an assist.

The Cardinals' defensive effort was just as important as the offense. Orchard View entered the match with a change in formation, looking to add additional support along the defensive line.

Sophomore Cyrus Brown answered the challenge.

Brown stepped into the new formation alongside new players on the defensive line and turned in a standout performance, covering ground and helping shut down Fremont's attack throughout the night.

“Cyrus stepped to the challenge of the new formation and the new players on the defensive line and excelled tonight,” said Orchard View head coach Chris Belasco.

Junior captain Bryson Stingle was another key piece of the Cardinals' performance. Stingle controlled the center of the midfield for nearly the entire 80 minutes, helping dictate the pace while also communicating with teammates and keeping the formation organized.

“Bryson is one of our most consistent players,” Belasco said. “He makes great plays on the field, helps players understand where they need to be in the formation, and being a second-year captain, he is a leader the team turns to for guidance.”

Behind the defense, Ghaige Breusch continued his strong play in goal, making eight saves to help preserve the one-goal victory.

The win comes at an important time for Orchard View, despite the challenges, the Cardinals responded with one of their most complete performances of the season.

And they did it on the road against a Fremont program that reached the state semifinals last year.

For Orchard View, Wednesday's 2-1 victory was more than a win in the standings. It was a performance that showed the Cardinals can adjust, compete and find ways to win when challenged.
